What your child is learning
Small choices add up. This lesson helps students slow down, notice who is influencing them and choose what fits their values. They learn how feelings and friends can affect a decision, then answer questions about the 3 C’s and healthy influences.
What happens in class
Students start with animal-and-emotion charades, learn the 3 C’s, and take part in a team question challenge. The class discusses helpful influences and ways to pause before choosing. They finish by connecting choices to honesty, kindness, respect, responsibility and courage.
Start with curiosity
- Who helps you make good choices?
- What makes it hard to pause when you are upset or excited?
- How can you disagree with a friend and still be respectful?
- Which of the 3 C’s feels hardest to use?
Try it together: homework or game time?
Your child has homework, and a friend invites them to play a game. Take turns using each C. Name the decision, list a few options and think about what happens next. Ask your child to suggest a plan—for example, finish the work first and then play.
Practice a sentence before it is needed
Try a few responses out loud: “No thanks,” “I’m not doing that,” “Let’s do something else,” or “I need a minute to think.” Let your child choose words that sound like them.
Notice the effort
Say what you noticed: “You stopped and thought about that,” or “You included someone who was left out.” If a choice goes badly, talk about what could help next time instead of treating one mistake as their identity.
